Sports Betting and Myths

The best gamblers are always trying to find new sports and new bets that mean for them constant new challenges. One of the most striking sports for betting is football. The NFL seasons, prove to be very attractive for those bettors who want to make big profits and test their knowledge. However, there are occasions in what gamblers go through slumps, or even believe things that are not as myths. For this reason year after year NFL bettors, come full of confidence at the start of the season but end up losing. How can this be possible?

Myth #1 : If you want to win You Should Bet the Better Team

This is the first myth that affects hundreds of players, and is that statistically bettors tends to bet for those teams known as the favorites, and this action is a big mistake mainly because the average bettors, usually exaggerate with respect to the strength of the best players and best teams.

However, it is important to note there is not significant difference between the best player in a certain position, and the worst. It much depends on the willingness of players to win an encounter or game, and often those players who many people think that are bad end up surprising everyone suddenly appearing motivated and ready for anything and make a big difference in the results.

Beside this usually the obvious power advantage that a team has over other team is defeat by the point spread tends. Another problem that arise in the betting is determined by the advantage that the losing teams have against the favorites, and it is that a losing team always has the option to improve his game and overcome the teams that it faced. Often the underdog teams of the NFL know that they must give their best to win in a match for this reason, they play and fight until the last minute trying to score something that usually the teams that has the advantage (the favorites) don't do it because usually the team that is winning is focused on hold his advantage, and not in fight till the end. Through a constant effort of underdog teams these often enough fight and beat the favorite team, and therefore, the bettors who only bet on the favorite teams, are often wrong and lose.

Myth #2 : Within amateur bettors there is a belief that results of the bets are fixed. This is a myth that has even prompted some people to write books and magazines, based on this erroneous belief.

Personally I can say that I do not share the idea that games and the results of the NFL are fixed. Why? Through the years I have gained in various occasions betting on the NFL, and I know some handicappers who also have achieved great gains with this type of betting. So if games were fixed it would not be possible to gain and less on repeated occasions.
