Teaser bets are popular sports bets. The main attraction of a teaser bet is that it allows you to adjust the point spread in your favor.
Teasers are used ONLY for Basketball (Pro & College) and Football (Pro & College), and the two can be mixed together. In basketball they can get either 4, 4½ or 5 points; and in football they can get either 6, 6½ or 7 points. These teasers are also called Vegas teasers.
Many players like to reduce the risk in a parlay bet by making a teaser bet. A teaser bet is a parlay, or combination, bet placed on pointspreads and/or totals in American Football and basketball only, with the pointspread and/or total adjusted, or "teased", to give the bettor a greater chance of winning. Consider the example below:
| Selection | Bet |
|---|---|
| Buffalo | 1.71 |
| NY Giants | |
| NY Giants +7.0 | |
| Buffalo | 1.71 |
| NY Giants | |
| Under +45.0 | |
| Bet Price: | 2.924 |
In this example, the bettor has chosen the New York Giants at +7.0 and a total of Under 45 points. This means that, for the bet to win, the New York Giants must either beat Buffalo or not lose by more than nine points, and the total points scored in the game must be under 45. If both these selections are correct, the bet wins and pays out $29.24 on every $10 wagered.
All of the picks must win, in a case of a single loss the wager is automatically a loss. A "Push" and a "Win" on a 2 team teaser constitutes a "No Action" wager and the risk would be refunded to the customers account. Ties on a three or more team teaser will revert to the next lowest betting bracket.
Like parlays in general, teaser bets are not recommended as part of your regular routine as the odds and the juice tend to be most in your favor with straight wagers.
But, teasers are a fun bet and may be appropriate in some circumstances where you feel you need a point spread cushion.
